Rotorua 2011

Around 170 delegates (NZMPA members and non-members) congregated in Rotorua from 25 to 29 August 2011 for the NZMPA's Biennial Scientific Conference, pre- and post conference courses, the NZMPA's Annual General Meeting, and of course the pirate-themed dinner at the Blue Baths!

A big thank you to our sponsors for making the conference possible, and to Kirsty Speedy and her organising committee for all the hard work put into making the whole event a success.  Thanks also to all the NZMPA members and non-members that attended.

Conference

The conference topic was The Role of Exercise in the Management of Musculoskeletal Pain and Dysfunction and was held on Saturday the 27th and Sunday the 28th of August 2011.

Papers were presented by invited keynote speakers Dr Alison Grimaldi, Prof Kim Bennell and Mr Matt Kritz, as well as a number of  other speakers.  As usual, the conference was also used as a stage for researchers to showcase their latest research findings.  A panel discussion facilitated by Dr Duncan Reid was held on the role of physical therapy in exercise and the feedback was that delegates found this session very useful.

The events also included a welcoming cocktail event and a trade exhibition.

Pre- and Post Conference Courses

The conference keynote speakers presented some courses on Thursday the 25th, Friday the 26th and Monday the 29th of August 2011:

Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The NZMPA's amended constitution, trust deed and annual financial statements were all approved at the AGM held on Friday the 26th of August 2011 (before the conference).

At this event, Dr Duncan Reid was awarded Life Membership of the NZMPA in recognition of the valuable and sustained contribution he has made to the NZMPA over many years. He deservedly joins the list of life members who have made their mark on the profession and the activities of the NZMPA over the years.

Dinner

A highlight on the social side was the pirate-themed dinner at the Blue Baths:
